1st Stop – Dxb (Part 2)

Posted on

As I’ve said in my previous entry, I have tons of stories to tell. So I have to start off with part 2 of my story and in this part, I’m still in Dubai. ๐Ÿ™‚

The following day after arriving in Dubai, 10th March to be exact, I planned to go to Dubai Mallย and see the world known Burj Khalifa – the tallest building in the world right now. I went to my cousin’s pad for lunch first, and then from their home, I rode the Dubai Metro Train and alighted at the Dubai Mall station. I went alone, since Don Albert had a date and I was shy to ask Philip and May to come with me. There’s a shuttle bus from the station to Dubai Mall, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to ride the bus since everybody ahead of me rushed immediately to the bus making it impossible for me to squeeze myself in. I decided to wait for the next bus and take pictures of Burj Khalifa while waiting. The building is extremely HIGH! But I find it really amazing, just like when I saw the Petronas Twin Tower in Malaysia. ๐Ÿ™‚

Since the next bus was taking so long, I decided to walk towards Dubai Mall as I see the other people do as well. It was really windy that day making the temperature quite cold so it was okay to talk a walk. Once I reached the Dubai Mall, the first thing I searched for was the location of the Dancing Fountain. The mall is HUGE! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ And a lot of tourists are roaming around the mall. The mall also housed all branded merchandise.. Expensive ones, of course. I had to call my best friend, Ella, to ask where in the mall the fountain is located. She was jogging when I called and told me that its located at the side of the mall where TGIF was. So I had to walk and read the directions to find my way. When I got there, people were already waiting for the show, everyone trying to find their place in the area. While waiting, I practiced shooting with my SLR, since I really missed taking pictures. I was able to take more photos of Burj Khalifa and the other building in the area.

The show started around 7 or 7:30PM. The show was quite short and the fountain danced to an arabic music. Nonetheless, it was still a show worth watching and an memory worth keeping. ๐Ÿ™‚ I was supposed to meet with Sweet’s sister to give her the dress Sweet sent for her, but since I was enjoying my time at the mall, I BBM’ed her saying if we could just meet the next day. After the show, I decided to walk around the mall for a while longer, trying my best to get to see everything. Unfortunately, my feet are killing me. I’ve been walking for hours nonstop with no rest at all. I just got to buy something from La Senzaย and took a little bit of rest in one of the few benches I saw around the mall. After that, since it was getting late and I haven’t had any dinner, I decided to go back to the hotel. But since I left some food items at my cousin’s pad, I had to pass by their house first and rest for a while before heading back to the hotel.

On 12th March, I decided to cook pork adobo for dinner. This is the first time I cooked adobo in my entire life. I was practically playing house in my hotel room. ๐Ÿ˜› I found myself a recipe online and just followed the instructions. I did a little experiment since I didn’t have cooking oil, I used butter instead. ๐Ÿ˜› Luckily, my adobo was a success! I also cooked rice, and since I didn’t have a rice cooker, I had to use whatever cooking pot was available and just put the heat at low temperature and carefully monitored the progress of the rice. Hehehe! ๐Ÿ˜€ My rice was also a success! ๐Ÿ˜€

The following day, I decided to cook sinigang for dinner. I felt nauseated from the pork adobo because of too much oil. And I like sinigang more. I forgot to buy fish sauce in the grocery so I bought salt from the store nearby instead. Voila! My pork adobo is a success too! ๐Ÿ˜€ I loved the taste, it was perfect! ๐Ÿ™‚

On 14th March, my cousins and soon-to-be cousin-in-law, May, went to Boracay Night Club at Asiana Hotel. It was walking distance from my cousin’s pad, so as usual I had to go to their house first. We had a few drinks and some light snacks, and listened to the band playing. The bar was pretty good with a big stage. The bands who played were also pretty good. I was happy I finally got to visit one of the bars being promoted in TFC. Hahaha!

Sorry for the low quality picย

Finally on my last day in Dubai, we were dismissed early from our training. So after lunch, I immediately went home, took a nap and went to Deira City Center to meet with Don. I wanted to see Burj Al-Arab but I didn’t know how to get there so I needed someone to come with me. But before going to Burj Al-Arab, I have a scheduled EB (eyeball) with some of my bride friends from Female Network’s Girl Talk. We are all 2012 brides, and since I happened to be in the county, I thought of asking them if they are interested to meet up. Our other bride friends have already done a couple of meet-ups back at home, so I thought “wouldn’t it be nice if we could have a meet-up abroad too?” ๐Ÿ™‚ Luckily, they were liked the idea and in just a day or two, we exchanged numbers in our FB group page and we have set to meet at DCC by 6-6:30PM. Since Don and I were already late, and I was already hungry, I thought it would be more reasonable to wait for the meeting time before proceeding to Burj Al-Arab. So we waited for a couple of minute at our rendezvous, Tim Hortons. My cousin and I exchanged stories, I ordered a hot vanilla drink and he saw one of his ex-coworker. Then I received a text message from one of my bride-friends saying that they are already in the coffee shop. I replied and started to look around and finally saw them. Apparently, Tarah had been there for quite sometime and we never realized we were waiting for each other. Haha! So Fides, Tarah and I started chatting while waiting for the others. And finally after a couple of more minutes we were completed and the sharing went on and on and on.. Luckily, Don had his friends to talk to as well so it wasn’t that bad for him. Otherwise I would have been worried about him.

I had to leave my newfound friends earlier since we still had to go to Burj Al-Arab and take some pictures. I felt hesitant because we were really enjoying the sharing and nonstop talking. But it was my last night and my flight is early in the morning so I have no choice. Off we went to Burj Al-Arab. We even had to walk quite a long way since we got off the wrong train station. Hahaha, we had to take a taxi afterwards since we didn’t know how to get to Burj Al-Arab. When we finally got there, I was so excited to take pictures. The area is a lot different from downtown Deira. It had an aura of richness and luxury. Apparently, after asking the taxi driver on our way home, he said that the souq in that area where I wondered why the traffic is terrible, had the best luxurious restaurants and bar in the city. And that only europeans and british people go there. Anyway, we are not allowed to go beyond the gates of the Burj since it was only by booking, so we took pictures outside peering through the spaces in between. The guards didn’t mind, I guess they were already used of tourists taking pictures.

Finally! Burj al-Arab!

Have to have my picture taken with this view!

After taking a few more shots of this expensive hotel, we headed back home. As usual, I passed by their house to rest for a while, and to also say goodbye to my cousins as my flight was early in the morning. Back in the hotel I started to fix most of my stuff so that in the morning I’d be more relaxed.

All in all, my Dubai experience was quite short but fun nonetheless. I would love to spend more time to see more of this city, but maybe I’ll do that some other time.

I’ll end this entry here, but I might have a few more points to tell next time.
